My Twentysomething Life

I Do, Make, Read, Watch, Eat…

When I’m Sick

I hope you do not feel like I’m whining with all the talk of my being sick.  But I feel like I am sick all the time!
I figured that since I am sick, what feels like all the time, I would let you know what happens when I am sick.

I sleep, all the time, and never feel like I have rested.
I lay on the couch, drink water, and eat oyster crackers.
I don’t do any housework.
I blow my nose so much that it becomes painful.
I watch the clock for when I can take more medicine.
My shoulder starts to hurt because I’m most comfortable laying on that side of my body.

And this has been going on for 2.5 weeks now.  So that means: there’s no food in the house, the house is a mess, I’m still worn out and want to sleep, but I need the money so I’m blowing my nose raw at work.  And it also means that this week I’m going to find a new doctor.  Hopefully the tides will turn and I’ll start feeling better.  I hope you all are healthy, rested, and that your homes are clean.

Where Have I Been?

You might be wondering where I have been.  I had been doing so well at blogging more frequently and then poof I was gone.  Well let me tell you where I was.  I was (well am) sick with a sinus infection.  It started last Thursday.  I didn’t go to work and instead went to the doctor.  She started me on an antibiotic and told me if I did not feel great on Monday to come back.  Well Friday started out pretty good, I went to work and everything, but in the afternoon I got really worn out and was feeling awful so I went home and laid on my couch and Amanda kept me company.

Saturday I took it easy for most of the day.  Adam and I ran a couple errands and then we went to dinner at our pastors house who is also a professor at Milligan.  There were more people there than we had expected but it was a nice evening.

Sunday morning I was feeling pretty good, we went to church and to the fellowship meal.  And then I started to set up for the shower that Lauren and I were throwing for our friend Sarah.  Since I forgot to take pictures you can check out Lauren’s pictures on her blog here.  Then in the evening Adam and I went on a date.  We went to McDonalds for dinner and then saw The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.  I’ve been reading the books and was so excited about the movie and we both enjoyed it.

Once we got home is when I realized how exhausted I was and how sick I felt.  Sunday night was miserable.  I had a hard time sleeping, was running a fever, achy and all that.  I finally fell asleep and when I woke up felt even worse.  So I didn’t go to work and instead went back to the doctor.  While there they tested me for strep and mono and then said I still only had a sinus infection.  They switched my antibiotic and I went home and slept for a lot of the rest of the day.

Yesterday I was feeling a lot better and went to work and got to hang out with some wonderful friends last night.  We had so much fun.  I hope I keep feeling even better.  I hate being sick.  I’m also hoping this is the only time this year I get sick.  I’m crossing my fingers.

Sick Thursday

Yesterday I woke up with a crazy migraine.  I have been getting them pretty frequently, which is pretty obnoxious, but yesterday’s was worse than usual.  I went in to work, hoping that all the medicine I took would kick in, but the combination of the noise, light, and staring at the computer was too much for me and I only made it 30 minutes before getting sick and going home.  At home I slept until 1 and then I had a recheck appointment on my shoulder.  Luckily I am feeling a lot better today.  Since I was sick yesterday I did not get a chance to give you my Thursday-Morning Tell-About Update, or my April Goals Update, so I’m going to give them to you now.

What a Weekend

If how I was feeling on Friday was any indication for how my weekend was going to go, well…it was not going to be good.  I was feeling terrible on Friday, but I made it through work and laid on the couch for the rest of the evening.  We had all kinds of plans with friends on Saturday, and on Friday night we almost had to cancel, but I asked Adam if we could wait and see how I felt in the morning, and it’s a good thing we did because…

In the morning I felt so much better!  All I had on Saturday was a runny nose and my voice was on the fritz.  I sounded like Yoda.  Yeah, not exactly attractive, but at least I felt better.

The first thing we did was go to Brandon and Kristens to play Eclipse.  Now, Eclipse is Adam’s favorite board game and it takes a long time to play and there are lottsss of rules to learn.  We got to Brandon and Kristen’s at 11am and left a little after three.  The time included teaching me to play, playing, and a pizza break.  So I got to check something off my goal list (yay!) and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.  It was pretty fun, complicated, but more fun than I was expecting, so I guess it was a good experience.

After the game we went home and cleaned the apartment because some of our favorite married people were coming over for dinner: the Albrechts and the Nicols.  It was a fun evening.

Our Sunday was relaxing and a perfect end to the weekend.  My only two complaints were: 1-that it wasn’t long enough and 2-that I didn’t get more sleep.

Do you have any wonderful weekend stories?

Just my Luck

I hope that you did not think, seeing the title of this post, that I was going to be watching or talking about the 2006 Lindsay Lohan/ Chris Pines movie, because if that were the case, you should be disappointed in me.

It is actually just my luck that I got strep again.  (Insert nasty picture of strep throat here that I actually googled but couldn’t bring myself to post.  Just too nasty).  I was feeling gross when I woke up this morning, so I went to the doctor, and there it was, strep again.

In the past six months I have had:
-a kidney stone
-the flu
-several colds
-three allergic reactions
-a bout with anxiety
-a torn tendon in my shoulder
-and now two rounds of strep

Sheesh, I’m worn out just writing all that.  I also mentioned all this to my doctor today and she ran some additional blood work because I should not be this sick.  So, hopefully I will know something soon, and I’m hoping for better luck this time.

Mondays…

Like most other working people, I hate mondays.  Especially the Monday after daylight savings, spring fowards, Sunday.  This morning I thought it was 2am when my alarm went off because it was pitch black outside.  It probably didn’t help that I didn’t sleep well.  Adam got strep this weekend, and I am feeling sick again and I am afraid that I got it again.  And since I haven’t been sleeping well, I’m suspecting that my body just doesn’t have the chance to get better.  What a drag.  I’m still feeling pretty sick and I might have to go back to the doctor.  Joy.

Was your monday as rough as mine?

A Quick Weekend

My parents came down to visit this weekend.  It was a really good weekend even though I was exhausted from being sick.  I worked a half day on Friday in order to be able to spend more time with them.  We went out to lunch, hung out at home, had dinner, went to Amanda’s opera and played a game at home.  Then on Saturday, I made breakfast, we played a game, and went out for lunch to celebrate my birthday.  They brought Adam and I a couch and a table that they didn’t want any more and we are really excited about it.

We didn’t have much time to spend together and we didn’t do much, but it was good to have my mom and dad with us.  After they left on Saturday I did some shopping with my birthday money and went home to find Adam and all his friends playing Risk on our new table.  I watched some movies while this game was going on, and the evening ended with my dodging nerf darts because of the nerf war happening in my living room.  Adam and I are still finding nerf darts around the house.

Church on Sunday went pretty well.  I wasn’t feeling good after church, so Adam and I just spent a quiet, relaxing Sunday at home so I could rest.

The weekend really flew by, but it was good.  I just wish it could have been longer.

March is really going to fly by for us.  It is getting busier at work, Adam’s spring break is next week, and it will be Easter before  we know it.  And then crazy April will be here and there is a lot going on then.  I hope you all had a blessed weekend and here’s to a great week!

Sick and tired of being sick and tired

As if I wasn’t dealing with enough already, I am now sick.  I woke up with a sore throat, which I have had for a few days, but this time I had a fever, plus nausea and I was feeling a lot worse.  So I called in to work and slept for a few more hours.  Since I still felt pretty crummy I decided to go to the doctor.  So now I know, I have strep and a sinus infection.  “….yay….”  I will be contageous until tomorrow night and will be sleeping and laying on the couch for most of the time.  I hope my parents still come over this weekend because I was really looking foward to it.

So here I go to make a baked potato, which if you did not know, is probably the best thing to eat when you are sick.  Or so I have been raised to believe.  But I’m not complaining, I do love potatoes.
