My Twentysomething Life

I Do, Make, Read, Watch, Eat…

My Favorite Color

My favorite color is blue.  It always has been it probably always will.  I like to wear blue because I think it looks good on me.  I have only had a blue room once.  And that is when I got to pick my own color.  It was blue, with pink polka dots.  Yeah, it was pretty awesome.  To me, blue is happy and calm.  This is my favorite shade of blue:

Isn’t it beautiful?  And it just works out that my favorite basketball team is blue (The Kentucky Wildcats).  I just love the color blue.  It is my favorite.
What is your favorite color?

I tend to procrastinate when…

whenever there is something that needs to be done.

I may be a planner, but I am most definitely a procrastinator, and that usually trumps the planning part of me.

It doesn’t matter what I need to do, I will most likely put off doing it, even if it is something that I want to do.  I almost always put everything off until the last minute, except planning.

I know, I know, I don’t make any sense.

Here are some of the main things I am particularly good at procrastinating at:
-washing the dishes
-doing laundry
-doing homework (when I had homework that needed to be done)
-going to the grocery store
-balancing the checkbook

What about you?  Are you a procrastinator?  Family members:  is this genetic? (haha)

My Scars

I’m not sure if you thought this would be a deep, serious post based on the title, but let me reassure you, it’s not.  I’m not talking about emotional, unseen scars.  I’m talking about my visible scars and where I got them.

When I started thinking about scars and where they came from, I realized that some of the have some pretty good stories, and I also have more scars than I thought I did.  Let’s start from the top.

Under my left eyebrow–chicken pox scar.  it was just too hard not to scratch!
My lower lip–I was running around the new library when I was little and ran into something and bit my lip.  You can see the teeth mark scars still and I wasn’t even in kindergarten yet.
My chin–I have a scar on my chin from playing tag in kindergarten.  We were playing with bases.  The bases were the metal benches along the perimeter.  I was running for the base, slid on the loose gravel, slid under the bench and hit my chin on it.
Right hand–on my hand there is a little scar that I have no idea where it came from
Left hand–the scar on this hand came from a laundry basket.  I was reaching inside the basket to get something at the bottom and when I pulled my hand out, my hand got caught on one of the notches and it ripped the skin
Left hand thumb–the scar on my left thumb is from third grade.  There was a sharp piece of metal sticking out of my desk that I caught my finger on.
Right hand middle finger and ring finger–these scars came from the same incident.  One day my sister and I were walking to the car after school and she tried to push me off the sidewalk.  I swung at her, she put up her arm, and my knuckles broke her watch face.  The glass from the watch cut me and left two scars.  This is one of my favorite stories.
Belly–more chicken pox scars
Right knee–there is a scar here from a rug burn that I got running around my church.  It wasn’t bad enough in itself to get the scar, but I picked at it, and now it’s there.
Left knee–One night at youth group we were playing keep away Frisbee.  I was trying to get the Frisbee.  It was thrown to someone and was way off.  I started running for the Frisbee, as did someone else.  They got there seconds before me and stepped on it to keep me from getting it.  Neither of us noticed that the Frisbee had cracked.  I slid to get the Frisbee and the sharp broken edge sliced through my knee.
Side of left knee–picked at a mosquito bite.

Those are all of my scars and their stories.  Do you have any awesome scar stories?

In the middle of the night…

Top  Reasons Why I Wake up in the Middle of the Night

1-I am cold
2-My shoulder hurts
3-I had a bad dream
4-Either Adam or I is sick
5-Adam wakes me up thinking I actually said something important
6-Adam is snoring
7-I just remembered something I forgot to do
8-I have a headache
9-Adam has stolen the covers
10-I can’t sleep

One of the first four things happen almost every night, the others happen but not as often.

My Top 10 Favorite TV Shows

Honorable Mention–Law and Order: Criminal Intent–For a long time growing up my dad and I never missed an episode of this series.  We loved it!  I didn’t like it so much after they starting switching up the actors in it, but this will always be a show that I enjoy.

10–What Not To Wear–I have always loved this show.  They are in the final season right now which makes me pretty sad because now Stacy and Clinton will never surprise me with a surprise shopping spree!  It’s too bad because I could really use one.
99–Restaurant Impossible–Adam and I love to watch this show.  And it seems like there is always an episode on that we haven’t seen.  If you haven’t seen this show, you should try to find at least one episode to watch.  Robert Irvine goes to a failing restaurant and tells them everything they are doing wrong and fixes it.  It’s pretty entertaining.
78–Grey’s Anatomy–I got hooked on this show my freshman year of college when me and all my friends would have late night marathons of this show.  We started at the beginning and worked our way through six seasons.  I have kept up with it ever since.  I just love all the characters and the drama.  I already preordered season 9 and it should be here today!  And then Lauren, Amanda and I will have a marathon on Saturday!  I’m so excited!

7–Rizzoli and Isles–I love this show and I love all of the characters in it!  The show is suspenseful, funny, and entertaining.  I love the show so much that I read all of the books that it is based on.  This show is currently on season 4 and I am really enjoying it.

6–Love it or List it–This show is on HGTV and I find it very entertaining.  The idea of the show is there is this family where one person hates the house they are living in and the other person loves it.  So they bring in a designer and a realtor.  The designer is renovating the house to make them love it again and the realtor is trying to find the perfect house to make them list the old one.

5-The Big Bang Theory–This show is one of my favorites because it is one that Adam and I really enjoy watching together.  We watch the new episodes on TV, reruns on TBS, and sometimes we stick in the DVDs.  Late at night, most likely we have this on in our apartment.  It is so funny and we really enjoy it.

114–Friends–This is another one that Adam and I watch together and never get sick of.  It is so funny.  We watch the reruns over and over!
43–Graceland–This is my new favorite show on television!  If you are not watching it, you should be.  Tonight is the first of the last two episodes of the season and it is going to be over too soon.  This show is awesome.  (Grandpa, if you haven’t been watching this I think you would like it).  And as an added bonus, Adam enjoys it too!
22–The Cosby Show–I love this show.  It’s a good thing that I have every season on DVD because you can hardly ever find it on TV any more.  This show is hilarious and it doesn’t matter how many times I have seen the episodes because I still love them.  If I have any say in it, my children will watch this show.

And finally, my favorite show of all time:
11–The Closer–This show was my absolute favorite-ever.  And then it was the last season and in the final episode, I cried.  I cannot believe that it is over.  This is a show that my dad and I never missed, we always enjoyed watching it together.  I have every season on DVD and I think I’m going to start at the beginning.  Also, a piece of trivia–in the final season, at one of the biggest twists in the show–I was upstairs in my apartment doubled over in pain from a kidney stone and missed it.  And I didn’t believe Adam when he told me what had happened.  Such a great show.

What are you favorite TV shows?  Do you have any suggestions of a show I should watch?

25 People who have Impacted my life in Positive ways

David and Phyllis Eversole  My parents are amazing people.  I am so thankful for them and all that they have done for me.  I am the person that I am today because of them.  They raised me well and I learned a lot from them.

Adam Tomlinson  My husband has had a positive impact on my life because he encourages me to be the best I can be and he brings out the best in me.  There is no doubt that when he asked me to marry him he impacted me for the better.

All four of my Grandparents  Your grandparents can teach you a lot of important things if you let them.  I know that mine have.  My grandparents have always been very important to me and they make me a better person.  They build me up and encourage me and they are always there to love and support me.

My sister  Amanda has made a positive impact on my life because she has always been there when I needed her.  She has become one of my best friends.  I don’t know what I would do without her.  We are so unalike that we make each other better.

Jim and Stephanie Dalrymple , Derik and Jen DeVries  These four people were the best mentors and spiritual guides that I ever had.  I looked up to them so much and they are all instrumental in shaping me into who I am today.  I have learned so much from them and I miss them being a part of my daily life.

Megan, Kylee, and Rachel  These three were my best friends in high school and are still some of my best friends today.  I have always been able to count on them and they were there for much of my amazing memories from living in Monticello.  Their friendship has meant so much to me.  They were with me when I married Adam and I know that they will always be with me in the future, even though we are far apart.

Janna Peterson  Janna is my longest friend.  I do not remember a time in my life when Janna was not my friend.  She has taught me that long distance doesn’t have to end a friendship and it certainly hasn’t for us.  I think that when you compare the time we spent as friends living in the same town and friends living apart from each other, we have been apart longer.  I think that is a great testament to our friendship.  I can’t imagine not having her friendship.

Lauren Albrecht  Lauren and I haven’t been friends for very long if you’re counting, but it feels like we have been friends forever.  Lauren quickly became one of my best friends.  She encourages me, builds me up, and keeps me accountable.  I am better because I have her as a friend.  I don’t know what I would do without her.

Grandma Watkins  For most of my life, I had the blessing of knowing my great-grandmother.  We would get to see her several times a year.  She was a great mentor and encourager to me.  From her I have learned constant love and devotion.  She passed away a few years ago and I have never stopped missing her.  I hold her close to me every day.

Last, but not least, Bethany, Josie, Christa, Mindy, Lauren, Lyndsay, Kyle and Stephen  I may have only been at Anderson for a year, but I consider all of the friends I met at Anderson to be lifelong.  Some of the most fun that I have ever had happened with these people and some of my most cherished memories as well.  I wish I could see them more.  I really broke out of my shell because of these wonderful people and I miss them very much.  They have changed my life for just the one year at school with them.

All of these wonderful people have made a huge impact on my life.  I do not know where I would be without any of them.  I am the person I am today because all of these people have touched my life.  And I am so thankful to have known all of you.  You are huge blessings in my life and I thank God for you every day.  Thank you for everything you taught me and for your love and encouragement.

Real Nails or Fake Nails?

First instinct response: Real.  I’ve only had fake nails once in my entire life and it didn’t end well.

The only time I have ever had fake nails was for my senior prom.  I went with my friends to get them done and then I had an honor band concert at Bradley University.  While I was there, I was playing cards with some friends before the concert.  In the game we were playing, you had to slap the jacks when they came up (I know it sounds like “Slap Jack”, but it was a little more complicated than that.”  Well, this one time I went to slap the jack at the same time someone else went to.  Our hands connected and off popped my pinky nail fake nail.  Only it wasn’t just the fake nail that came off…no, it pulled my real nail off as well!!  So I had 9 fake nails for my senior prom and no pinky nail.  So I’ve been scared of fake nails ever since.

But I do have to say that I have a very bad habit of biting my nails and I think fake nails would help that because I wouldn’t be able to get to my real nails.  And my nails would just look better all around.

And if I ever did get fake nails, I can assure you that they would never ever look like this:
ewEw.  Not gonna lie, these kinda creep me out.

What about you?  Real or fake nails?

10 Reasons..

I have to admit, I’ve had trouble coming up with something to write about recently (and I’ve been too busy to really think about it), so I am referencing the “I’m Stuck” list tonight.  Here’s a fun one for you.

10 Reasons I Couldn’t Live Without Popcorn

(mmm, doesn’t that just make you hungry!)

1.  I eat it almost every night for a snack
2.  I feel totally safe eating it.  Who would put nuts in popcorn?
3.  It’s salty
4.  But it can be sweet
5.  It can taste like just about anything you put on it (my favorites include: cinnamon sugar, cheese, and birthday cake)
6.  It’s healthy?  Okay, healthier than cookies
7.  It’s crunchy
8.  It’s my favorite snack
9.  It’s quick to make, so it satisfies my hunger sooner
10. I do not know what else would taste so good with movies

In summation.  I could not live without popcorn because it is the perfect and my most favorite snack.
I could use some right now…
