Well, it’s finally happened

I didn’t think that it could ever happen to me, but this week it has.  I have reached my limit.  I have read way too much.  I need to sit in front of a TV or in front of Netflix for a while and veg because I have reached my reading limit for the week, something which has never happened before.  I don’t want to see another book this weekend.
too-much-readingI know, I have no one to blame but myself.  I am the one who just kept reading.  And now I’ve just read too much.  Since Sunday I have read 5 books for a total of 2232 pages.  I enjoyed all of them, and now I am 170 pages into another book.  But I think I’ll have to put it down for the weekend.  I’m booked out.

So far this year I have read 139 books.  My original goal for the year had been to read 100, then I increased it to 150.  I might have to increase it again before the year is up.  So far this year I have read 46,304 pages.  I don’t even want to know how many words that is.

Okay, now I want to know.  Google search: Average number of words on a page of a fiction book: answer: 50,000 words=a 175 page novel.  Do a little math….

I have read 667,500 words this week.
I have read 13,229,500 words so far this year.

Yikes, now my head really hurts.

I know declare this a book free weekend.  Phew.

As Promised

I promised you a clothing rant, so here it goes.

Dressing up for work and other things seriously stresses me out.  My favorite outfit is my blue and green converse, jeans, and a white t-shirt.  If I could wear that every day, I definitely would!  Can someone find me a job where that would fit the dress code please?

I have something to admit, and if you are a friend of mine you probably already realize this, but I’m don’t usually put forth a lot of effort in what I wear.  Putting in effort into what I wear honestly stresses me out!  I don’t know why, it’s hard to put it in words, but it just does.  But this weekend I did some shopping for work clothes, because I have come to grips with the fact that I seriously need some, and I realized something about myself.

I have horrible body image.  I don’t like how I look in just about everything and I am very critical of myself.  This is something that I’m trying to work on, but it’s really hard.  I hardly ever look in the mirror and think, yeah I look good, unless I’m wearing my trusty white tee.

I did find a few things that I really liked when i was shopping and ended up buying them, but now I have to try and put together outfits, which is also really hard work for me.  I have a lot of ideas for what I would like to look like, just look at my Pinterest boards, but I have absolutely no follow through.

My mom is coming to visit this weekend and I’m hoping she can help me do some more shopping because I really need help in this whole “professional” clothing area.  I just don’t know what looks good, what is supposed to go together, and what is appropriate for work.  So if I am unsuccessful this weekend, I could use a shopping buddy!

So wish me luck on shopping this weekend, and hopefully I’ll have some photos of my finds for you.  And also, I would appreciate prayer for my body image issues, I’d like to feel happy with who I am 🙂  I know that God made me and I’m beautiful, but sometimes it’s hard to remember that when I look in the mirror.

So there you have it, a confession and a rant about work clothes, as promised.

My Scars

I’m not sure if you thought this would be a deep, serious post based on the title, but let me reassure you, it’s not.  I’m not talking about emotional, unseen scars.  I’m talking about my visible scars and where I got them.

When I started thinking about scars and where they came from, I realized that some of the have some pretty good stories, and I also have more scars than I thought I did.  Let’s start from the top.

Under my left eyebrow–chicken pox scar.  it was just too hard not to scratch!
My lower lip–I was running around the new library when I was little and ran into something and bit my lip.  You can see the teeth mark scars still and I wasn’t even in kindergarten yet.
My chin–I have a scar on my chin from playing tag in kindergarten.  We were playing with bases.  The bases were the metal benches along the perimeter.  I was running for the base, slid on the loose gravel, slid under the bench and hit my chin on it.
Right hand–on my hand there is a little scar that I have no idea where it came from
Left hand–the scar on this hand came from a laundry basket.  I was reaching inside the basket to get something at the bottom and when I pulled my hand out, my hand got caught on one of the notches and it ripped the skin
Left hand thumb–the scar on my left thumb is from third grade.  There was a sharp piece of metal sticking out of my desk that I caught my finger on.
Right hand middle finger and ring finger–these scars came from the same incident.  One day my sister and I were walking to the car after school and she tried to push me off the sidewalk.  I swung at her, she put up her arm, and my knuckles broke her watch face.  The glass from the watch cut me and left two scars.  This is one of my favorite stories.
Belly–more chicken pox scars
Right knee–there is a scar here from a rug burn that I got running around my church.  It wasn’t bad enough in itself to get the scar, but I picked at it, and now it’s there.
Left knee–One night at youth group we were playing keep away Frisbee.  I was trying to get the Frisbee.  It was thrown to someone and was way off.  I started running for the Frisbee, as did someone else.  They got there seconds before me and stepped on it to keep me from getting it.  Neither of us noticed that the Frisbee had cracked.  I slid to get the Frisbee and the sharp broken edge sliced through my knee.
Side of left knee–picked at a mosquito bite.

Those are all of my scars and their stories.  Do you have any awesome scar stories?

What a Weekend

Wow, it feels like it has been longer than only 2 days since my last blog post!  So much has happened since Friday.

Friday night at work there wasn’t too much going on, so I started watching a new show on Netflix.  Lately I had been watching tons of Grey’s Anatomy, but I am all caught up and ready for the new season this Thursday!!  So I have been looking for a new show to watch, so I picked Pretty Little Liars.  I only watched two episodes on Friday, but that was enough to get me hooked!  Question: How do those pretty little liars get their hair to look so perfect?!

After work, I watched What Not To Wear and waited for Adam to come home from playing with some of his friends.  When he got home, we took a late night trip to Walmart, which we have not done in forever.  We browsed and got some grocery shopping done and got home around one AM.  But it was fun to spend that time together.

Saturday morning we both just woke up around 9.  We took it easy in the morning, reading and watching cartoons, and then we went out to run some errands.  Adam’s mission: Yugioh cards.  My mission:  some new work clothes.

Adam was successful at the first store we went to: Target.  Then we went to Books a Million where I bought the new Nicholas Sparks book (!) and got a great deal on it with my member coupons!  Then we went to the mall and did some shopping (there will be a shopping/clothing/work clothes rant coming soon).  We finished our excursion with Pals (for me) and a pretzel (for Adam).  Delicious!

When we got home, Adam and Jacob played some Yugioh and I crafted upstairs (pics to come) and watched more Pretty Little Liars.  Then Jacob left, I made dinner, and we went over to Jacob and Lauren’s to play some games with friends.  It was so fun!  We made another stop at Walmart on our way home, for a full length mirror, can you believe that we didn’t have one?!

Sunday morning we woke up, went to church, and had lunch at Taco Bell.  Then we watched some Big Bang Theory, Amanda came over to do laundry, and we called my parents.  After church in the evening Adam and I watched Harry Potter 7.1 and just hung out.  It was a great weekend!

Hello, my name is Lauren, and I’m a Planner

whatplan  I am an obsessive, compulsive planner.  I always like to know what the plan is and I like to see it followed.  Not having plans stresses me out.  But plans also have a way of getting my hopes up.  I guess it is true that if you don’t have a plan then you can’t be let down or have the stress of the plan following through.  And even if you do have a plan that doesn’t actually mean that things are going to follow that plan.  I love plans, and yet as I think about it, I hate plans.

I like to have a plan so that I know where I’m going and when I’m going to get there.  There is security and hope in knowing when things are going to happen and being able to get ready for them.

But what happens to a planner when you can’t have a plan?

For me, I stop planning everything.  I have a bad habit that if I can’t plan one thing then I stop planning everything and I stop following through with the plans I already have.  Why have any plan if you can’t have all plans?

At this point in my life I know that I need to let my plans and expectations go because I don’t know when things are going to happen.  I also know that I need to rely on God’s timing and his plan.  I just wish that he could clue me in on that plan.

Do you have any advice for an obsessive planner with no plan?!

Sad Thursday

Even though Adam and I are going to have a little date night at home tonight and we have plans to play cards later it is still a sad Thursday because there is no Graceland until next summer!

Take my word for it, the show is awesome!  Take these next few months and catch up on my favorite show.

Adam and I will be missing Graceland tonight, if you haven’t watched it.  You don’t know what you’re missing!

Drive to Write

drive to write  I have always had a drive to write.  I love to journal, I love to blog, and when I was younger I loved to write stories.  I still think writing books would be awesome.  It is something that I will always dream of doing, but whenever I start thinking of stories or plots or characters.  They stink.  I apparently have no imagination, or I am just not that great of a writer.  And how do I know what people will want to read about?

Well, I have a drive to write, so I am going to keep writing.  I am going to write, either journal, story ideas, or blog every day, and maybe one day I’ll look at everything I have done and there will be a story in there somewhere.  I would do a memoir, but I don’t think that my life has been all that exciting for people to want to read about it.  So we will see what happens, and maybe one day I’ll share it with you.  If you’re lucky 🙂

In the middle of the night…

Top  Reasons Why I Wake up in the Middle of the Night

1-I am cold
2-My shoulder hurts
3-I had a bad dream
4-Either Adam or I is sick
5-Adam wakes me up thinking I actually said something important
6-Adam is snoring
7-I just remembered something I forgot to do
8-I have a headache
9-Adam has stolen the covers
10-I can’t sleep

One of the first four things happen almost every night, the others happen but not as often.

My favorite quote this week
