God is in Control

One of the things that I struggle with most as a Christian is trying not to worry or be anxious and giving things to God.  Do you struggle with this as well?  Admitting that I am powerless and that there is nothing I can do is really hard.  I like to feel like I am in control, and giving that control up to God is something I need to remind myself to do literally a million times a day.

There are lots of verses in the Bible about not worrying and not be anxious and affirmation that God is in control.  I think that this is because, we need to hear it and be reminded all the time!  I know I do.  Even though I remind myself of this truth all the time, it has not yet gotten any easier for me.

Here are some of my favorite verses in the Bible that I turn to in order to be reminded:

Matthew 6:25-34  Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on.  Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not of more value than they?  And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?  And why are you anxious about clothing?  Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?  Therefore do not be anxious saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.  But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.  Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.  Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

John 14:27  Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.  Not as the world gives do I give to you.  Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Psalm 55:22  Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

Proverbs 12:25  Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.

Philippians 4:6-7  Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made know to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 13:6   The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?

Proverbs 19:21  Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.

Besides reading scripture, another way that I remind myself that God is in control is through prayer to God.  I have found that prayer is incredibly comforting for me, and that comfort makes it easier for me to give control to God.  One thing that also helps me give up control is knowing that other people are praying for me as well.

I have added a new page to this blog, and I hope that you will check it out and use it.  On the right side, click on “I Believe” and then “Prayr Requests.”  I will be updating it with my specific prayer requests, and I would love for you to send me your requests so that I may pray for you as well.  I will update this page often with mine and your prayer requests so that we can all be in prayer for each other.  I am really excited about this and I hope that it will be as encouraging to you as it is to me.
