My Twentysomething Life

I Do, Make, Read, Watch, Eat…

As Promised

I promised you a clothing rant, so here it goes.

Dressing up for work and other things seriously stresses me out.  My favorite outfit is my blue and green converse, jeans, and a white t-shirt.  If I could wear that every day, I definitely would!  Can someone find me a job where that would fit the dress code please?

I have something to admit, and if you are a friend of mine you probably already realize this, but I’m don’t usually put forth a lot of effort in what I wear.  Putting in effort into what I wear honestly stresses me out!  I don’t know why, it’s hard to put it in words, but it just does.  But this weekend I did some shopping for work clothes, because I have come to grips with the fact that I seriously need some, and I realized something about myself.

I have horrible body image.  I don’t like how I look in just about everything and I am very critical of myself.  This is something that I’m trying to work on, but it’s really hard.  I hardly ever look in the mirror and think, yeah I look good, unless I’m wearing my trusty white tee.

I did find a few things that I really liked when i was shopping and ended up buying them, but now I have to try and put together outfits, which is also really hard work for me.  I have a lot of ideas for what I would like to look like, just look at my Pinterest boards, but I have absolutely no follow through.

My mom is coming to visit this weekend and I’m hoping she can help me do some more shopping because I really need help in this whole “professional” clothing area.  I just don’t know what looks good, what is supposed to go together, and what is appropriate for work.  So if I am unsuccessful this weekend, I could use a shopping buddy!

So wish me luck on shopping this weekend, and hopefully I’ll have some photos of my finds for you.  And also, I would appreciate prayer for my body image issues, I’d like to feel happy with who I am 🙂  I know that God made me and I’m beautiful, but sometimes it’s hard to remember that when I look in the mirror.

So there you have it, a confession and a rant about work clothes, as promised.

What a Weekend

Wow, it feels like it has been longer than only 2 days since my last blog post!  So much has happened since Friday.

Friday night at work there wasn’t too much going on, so I started watching a new show on Netflix.  Lately I had been watching tons of Grey’s Anatomy, but I am all caught up and ready for the new season this Thursday!!  So I have been looking for a new show to watch, so I picked Pretty Little Liars.  I only watched two episodes on Friday, but that was enough to get me hooked!  Question: How do those pretty little liars get their hair to look so perfect?!

After work, I watched What Not To Wear and waited for Adam to come home from playing with some of his friends.  When he got home, we took a late night trip to Walmart, which we have not done in forever.  We browsed and got some grocery shopping done and got home around one AM.  But it was fun to spend that time together.

Saturday morning we both just woke up around 9.  We took it easy in the morning, reading and watching cartoons, and then we went out to run some errands.  Adam’s mission: Yugioh cards.  My mission:  some new work clothes.

Adam was successful at the first store we went to: Target.  Then we went to Books a Million where I bought the new Nicholas Sparks book (!) and got a great deal on it with my member coupons!  Then we went to the mall and did some shopping (there will be a shopping/clothing/work clothes rant coming soon).  We finished our excursion with Pals (for me) and a pretzel (for Adam).  Delicious!

When we got home, Adam and Jacob played some Yugioh and I crafted upstairs (pics to come) and watched more Pretty Little Liars.  Then Jacob left, I made dinner, and we went over to Jacob and Lauren’s to play some games with friends.  It was so fun!  We made another stop at Walmart on our way home, for a full length mirror, can you believe that we didn’t have one?!

Sunday morning we woke up, went to church, and had lunch at Taco Bell.  Then we watched some Big Bang Theory, Amanda came over to do laundry, and we called my parents.  After church in the evening Adam and I watched Harry Potter 7.1 and just hung out.  It was a great weekend!

Shop til you Drop

I love to go shopping.  Even when I don’t have money (it is more fun with money though).  I like to window shop too.  My favorite stores to shop at are Kirklands, Hobby Lobby, Target and JCPenney.  I could also spend hours in a bookstore.

I love birthdays and Christmas because I get to take myself on a little shopping free.  How fun!

I’m always looking for some new stores to shop at.  What are some of your favorites?

Learning About Financial Aid

Yesterday and today I spent the full day learning about Financial Aid.  Tomorrow will be more of the same.  We have been learning about how to deal with distressed students, Federal and State programs, and so much more!

Do you know what I am learning?

Learning about Financial Aid depresses me.  It makes me think that aid will be very different and complicated when my children are in college.  And college is probably going to be crazy expensive by then.

I think Adam and I will probably have to start saving now to put our children through school.  Phew.  I’m overwhelmed just thinking about all the money we’ll have to save.

I hope financial aid gets better instead of worse, but I’m not sure how.  We shall see.

On the plus side, we got to do some shopping tonight, and I got to go to my favorite store: Kirklands. Yay!

There goes my life…it’s being sucked away

I feel like Westley in The Princess Bride when the life literally gets sucked out of him.

Poor Westley

Poor Westley

Want to know what has done this terrible thing to me?

Meal Planning.

I hate meal planning.  I feel like it literally sucks the life out of me every time I try to do it.  It usually takes me forever to look through that grocery store ad and then coupons to see if that helps me decide anything, and it usually doesn’t.  So then I am back to square one.  Usually I like to try one new recipe because I feel like we try the same things every time.

Meal planning is like pulling teeth.  Neither Adam or I either know what we want to eat for the week.  I think it took me at least an hour, probably more, today to try and plan our menu for the rest of the week.  I usually only plan three meals and we have leftovers for lunches and any other dinners.  And I can’t even come up with three meals—sheesh.

I have tried to be more organized at it and make lists of our favorite meals and keep track each week of what we eat so that we don’t repeat a lot, but I stopped looking at it, updating it, and so on.  Basically, I try to get myself organized and then I don’t use the organization system I set up  #facepalm

Does anyone have any suggestions for meal planning so I can get out of this pit of despair?!!

Stretch the Weekend

I wish that the weekend were several days longer than it actually is.  I wish that I had more time to rest and relax.  I usually have a lot to do over the weekend because it is usually the only time that I have to be productive because I am wiped out in the evenings.  That’s why the weekend needs to be longer, so that I have a couple days to be productive and also a couple days to rest and relax instead of trying to fit it all into just a few days.  Anyone with me?

Adam and I decided to celebrate my birthday on Friday because we are both busy today and won’t really get to spend any time together.  So, after work we went to Crazy Tomato for pizza.  It is one of our favorites, and it is pretty cheap.  You get an order of delicious cheesy bread just for sitting down and we got a large pizza for $11 and took three pieces of it home.  It was delicious.  Adam’s gift to me was some shopping money, so after dinner he took me shopping.  It was really fun, and I still have some money left over for some after birthday spending as well.  The only downside to the evening was that I wore these really cute shoes that pinched my toes and gave me blisters.  Adam said I was walking around the mall like someone had just chopped off one of my toes.  Then we just came home, played games, watched TV and relaxed.

Saturday morning I slept in a little longer than usual, which was good since I haven’t been getting very much sleep.  My arm was feeling good so I cleaned the kitchen and did laundry.  Now, don’t think I went crazy.  I was definitely babying my arm but was just trying to get some stuff done that I had neglected.  I watched another best picture movie, “Grand Hotel,” which I really enjoyed.  It is definitely one of my favorites.  I got all the laundry done, the whole kitchen is clean, we had chicken parmesan for dinner, we watched “South Pacific” and played some games, and I got to finish the night off by watching “Pitch Perfect”.  Yay!

Sunday we went to church, enjoyed some fellowship and potluck afterwards (and I didn’t die).  After church I did my grocery shopping, Adam preached the night service, I made some absolutely delicious macaroni and cheese, and I am so sad that I forgot to take pictures for you!  Then I made myself birthday cupcakes and we watched the Oscars.

And today is my birthday J  I have felt the love today.  Yay for another year.  I hope you all had as awesome a weekend as I did.  My only regret is that I didn’t take any pictures!

If you have noticed a lack of “crafty” posts recently, that is because I have discovered how difficult it is to craft without extra spending money, but I have some ideas and some stuff lying around, so maybe I’ll come up with something to share with you soon.

Tonight I will be working another 4 hours at the Phoneathon.  And coming soon, a blog post about my love of scrapbooking!

Life Update and Funny Friday

I thought I would take some time to update you on my life this morning.  I feel like I haven’t written very much this week.

1-Have have found a new website that I looovvveee!!  It is called goodreads.  It is a website where you can put in all the books you have read, rate and write reviews on them, list the books you are currently reading, and the books you want to read.  I love it.  It is pretty addicting.  And my “to-read” list is growing faster than I can keep up with it.  I added the goodreads widget to the right, so check it out.

2-In case you did not already know, I got the scholarship to attend the Religious Communicators Council annual convention free of charge April 4-6.  I am so excited!  It is going to be a great time of networking and learning.

3-I went to the doctor yesterday about my shoulder.  It turns out they did find tearing in my MRI.  It is not in the labrum, which I do not know if that is good news or bad news, but it is in my bicep tendon.  And the only way to fix this is to have surgery.  There are temporary things they can do to relieve the pain, but nothing will fix it but surgery.  After surgery I will need to be in a sling for 6 weeks and then do 6-8 weeks of physical therapy.  We don’t know when the surgery will be yet, but we need to save some money before it can happen.  Also, since I need to be able to drive to Indianapolis for the convention in April and cannot do that for 6 weeks after surgery, the surgery will probably have to be after the convention in April, so my guess is that it will be sometime in April.  Which is good because hopefully we can have a good chunk saved by then.

4.  I have been dreaming of babies all week!  It has been so crazy!  I have been finding a lot of cute baby stuff on Pinterest for whenever Adam and I decide to embark on that adventure, so maybe it has gone to my head…

5.  I have been working the Emmanuel Phoneathon for a few nights this week and will be doing it a couple nights next week.  It has been lots of hours of calling, many hang-ups, but still good conversations and donations.  It has been a good experience so far.

6.  This is going to be the best weekend ever!  I get to have a birthday celebration with my husband and the Oscars are on Sunday!  Yay!  And then either Thursday or Friday of next week my parents are coming down for my sister’s opera and to celebrate my birthday.  I am excited to spend some time with them, and they are bringing us some furniture that I’m really pumped about!  It’s also potluck Sunday at church, which is a lot of fun fellowship, but also a little stressful for me, so let’s hope that goes well.

7. Random fact:  I have been seriously craving pizza all week and I’m hoping that this weekend, with some birthday money, I will be able to enjoy some warm, cheesy, yummy pizza.  Hmm…I wish I was close enough that Joe Bologna’s would deliver to me!

And now, Funny Friday:
2534Hope that made your friday even better!! I know it did for me 🙂
