My Twentysomething Life

I Do, Make, Read, Watch, Eat…

25 People who have Impacted my life in Positive ways

David and Phyllis Eversole  My parents are amazing people.  I am so thankful for them and all that they have done for me.  I am the person that I am today because of them.  They raised me well and I learned a lot from them.

Adam Tomlinson  My husband has had a positive impact on my life because he encourages me to be the best I can be and he brings out the best in me.  There is no doubt that when he asked me to marry him he impacted me for the better.

All four of my Grandparents  Your grandparents can teach you a lot of important things if you let them.  I know that mine have.  My grandparents have always been very important to me and they make me a better person.  They build me up and encourage me and they are always there to love and support me.

My sister  Amanda has made a positive impact on my life because she has always been there when I needed her.  She has become one of my best friends.  I don’t know what I would do without her.  We are so unalike that we make each other better.

Jim and Stephanie Dalrymple , Derik and Jen DeVries  These four people were the best mentors and spiritual guides that I ever had.  I looked up to them so much and they are all instrumental in shaping me into who I am today.  I have learned so much from them and I miss them being a part of my daily life.

Megan, Kylee, and Rachel  These three were my best friends in high school and are still some of my best friends today.  I have always been able to count on them and they were there for much of my amazing memories from living in Monticello.  Their friendship has meant so much to me.  They were with me when I married Adam and I know that they will always be with me in the future, even though we are far apart.

Janna Peterson  Janna is my longest friend.  I do not remember a time in my life when Janna was not my friend.  She has taught me that long distance doesn’t have to end a friendship and it certainly hasn’t for us.  I think that when you compare the time we spent as friends living in the same town and friends living apart from each other, we have been apart longer.  I think that is a great testament to our friendship.  I can’t imagine not having her friendship.

Lauren Albrecht  Lauren and I haven’t been friends for very long if you’re counting, but it feels like we have been friends forever.  Lauren quickly became one of my best friends.  She encourages me, builds me up, and keeps me accountable.  I am better because I have her as a friend.  I don’t know what I would do without her.

Grandma Watkins  For most of my life, I had the blessing of knowing my great-grandmother.  We would get to see her several times a year.  She was a great mentor and encourager to me.  From her I have learned constant love and devotion.  She passed away a few years ago and I have never stopped missing her.  I hold her close to me every day.

Last, but not least, Bethany, Josie, Christa, Mindy, Lauren, Lyndsay, Kyle and Stephen  I may have only been at Anderson for a year, but I consider all of the friends I met at Anderson to be lifelong.  Some of the most fun that I have ever had happened with these people and some of my most cherished memories as well.  I wish I could see them more.  I really broke out of my shell because of these wonderful people and I miss them very much.  They have changed my life for just the one year at school with them.

All of these wonderful people have made a huge impact on my life.  I do not know where I would be without any of them.  I am the person I am today because all of these people have touched my life.  And I am so thankful to have known all of you.  You are huge blessings in my life and I thank God for you every day.  Thank you for everything you taught me and for your love and encouragement.

Learning to Love Myself

One thing I have learned about myself recently is that I am very hard of myself.  I am my biggest critic.  My mom actually called me out on it and said I needed to “love myself.”

What an interesting idea…

Honestly I probably yell at myself more than anyone else yells at me.  Multiple times every day.

But my mom is right, I need to learn how to love, respect and accept myself.

Does anyone else struggle with this?  I am going to be trying very hard to love myself, because God made me.  I am his child and he loves me, so I should love myself.  Even when I fall short, God still loves me.  I am going to try to stop all the yelling inside my head when I mess up and fail, and hopefully that will lead to my loving and accepting myself more.

I’m the kind of person who just has to have friends.  Life is so much better with friends around you.
I have so many friends that I am blessed to have in my life.  I do not know what I would do without them!

If I had time to write thank you to all of you, I would.  But I’m afraid that I wouldn’t do it justice to say how much you all mean to me.  And I’m also afraid that I would leave someone out! (Yikes!)

So here’s to all my friends: I love you and I don’t know what I would do without you, and I miss you!  Thanks for being my friend.

Love is in the Air

I love February and I think the whole month is great.  I mean it has Valentine’s Day and my birthday!  If I had my way, we would call February “The Love Month” and we would celebrate love all month long, instead of just the one day.

And if I had my way with “Love Month” it would also be Romantic Movie Marathon month, where every night would be devoted to watching a romantic movie.  Of course, this would only work if my husband loved movies half as much as I do, which he doesn’t.

What, you may ask, would we watch during “Love Romantic Movie Marathon Month?”  Well, I’m glad you asked, because I happen to have my list right here (in no particular order):

  1. When Harry met Sally
  2. You’ve Got Mail
  3. Pride and Prejudice (The Keira Knightly version)
  4. Pretty Woman
  5. Fever Pitch
  6. The Ugly Truth
  7. Beauty and the Beast
  8. While you were Sleeping
  9. The Proposal
  10. Shakespeare in Love
  11. Ever After
  12. The Princess Bride
  13. Roman Holiday
  14. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
  15. Tristan and Isolde
  16. The Sound of Music
  17. The Notebook
  18. Hairspray
  19. Notting Hill
  20. West Side Story
  21. A Walk to Remember
  22. Music and Lyrics
  23. 50 First Dates
  24. Out of Africa
  25. 27 Dresses
  26. Sweet Home Alabama
  27. Roxanne
  28. Sydney White

I’m hoping that since our Valentine’s Day will most likely be “Stay at Home Sweet,” that I get to watch at least one, maybe two of these.  But I don’t know how I would pick!  Which romantic movie would you pick (doesn’t have to be on my list) if you could only watch one on Valentine’s Day?

everyone loves a good love story

Since February is only two hours away, I wanted to kick off your February with a love story.

Once upon a time, there were two couples who were best friends in college.  One of these couples found out that they would soon be parents.  The other couple came to visit and celebrate with them.  At this time, the other woman felt sick.  They did not realize it at the time, but this was the beginning of a love story.  In February a little girl was born, and in July a little boy.

The families did not live close to each other, but they got together every few years.

The little boy and girl grew up knowing each other and each considered the other one as a friend.

It got harder and harder for the families to get together, and each family continued to grow.  They would get together whenever they could, even if it were long times in between.

While the boy and girl were looking at colleges, they were both interested in the school where their families had gone.  The two families went to visit the school together.  This meeting rekindled the friendship between the boy and girl and they began to talk more frequently.

The boy followed in the footsteps of his parents, but the girl chose another school, eight hours away from the boy.  They continued talking, and at some point they realized, “hey, I really like this person.”  They began talking more and more and more.  And on April 10, 2009 they had their first official date.  He came to her home.  They want out for pizza and ice cream, watched her favorite movie at the time, and went for a walk.  It had been such a great date and she didn’t want him to leave.

Our First Date :)

Our First Date 🙂

They both went back to school and during the summer saw each other quite often.  During the summer the girl decided to transfer to the school where the boy was attending.  And she was much happier there.  They continued to date for another year and a half, enjoying every minute of it.

And then on August 1, 2010, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.  She was very excited and she said yes.  The next year flew by and they planned the wedding.  And on August 6th, 2011, they said I do.  Next week they will have been married for one and a half years and it has flown by.

Many of you will know this, but some of you may not (and the pictures have probably given it away), this love story is my favorite, because it’s my own.  It’s also my favorite story to tell.
