My Twentysomething Life

I Do, Make, Read, Watch, Eat…

You know why I love weekends?

I am more productive on Saturday and Sunday than I am the rest of the week.  And even though I’m marking things off my checklist I still feel like I am resting and relaxing.

On Saturday morning I wrote a list of everything I wanted to get done this weekend.  My list looked a little like this:
–do the laundry
–do the dishes
–balance the checkbook
–put away the Christmas decorations
–clean and straighten the house
–menu plan
–go to the grocery store
–organize the office
–keep up with the dishes so they don’t pile up
–put the clothes away

Well, I accomplished all of these tasks while also making two homemade meals, with sides, making sugar cookies, exercising, reading my Bible, hanging out with friends, and taking care of a sick husband.

So yes, after this weekend I felt very accomplished.

Too Fast Weekend

My weekend was way too fast and I did not get very much rest, which I was hoping for.

Friday night I got to hang out with my good friend Becky who I had not gotten to hang out with since before Thanksgiving.  Yeah, it had been way too long.  It was a very refreshing and rejuvenating time.  We talked about our future as ministers wives, and I really had a good time catching up.  When I went home, I was working on the laundry when Adam came home and said he was really hungry.  So we got to go out for a late snack with our other really good friends Jacob and Lauren.  It was great to see them and catch up!  I had to go to bed early on Friday night because I had to work on Saturday (this was my third weekend in a row that I had to work or travel on the weekend.  I could really use a day to sleep in).

Saturday morning I got up bright and early and headed to work for Connections.  Connections is an event at Milligan where students who are planning on coming in for the Fall can come and do their orientation, sign up for classes, and complete their financial aid.  So I answered lots of financial aid questions and my four hours of work went by pretty quickly.  After that, I had brunch with my sister.  And since I didn’t get to see her on her actual birthday, I took her to Into the Fire to paint some pottery (pictures to come).  This is what we did last year for her birthday, so I guess we’re making a tradition.  I’m going to a shower on Saturday and am supposed to wear a little black dress, which I had none.  So I did some shopping with Amanda on Saturday and I am so excited about the LBD I found.  It is so cute!  And it was cheap!

When I got home, Adam and I got ready to go out for a date, which we hadn’t done in a long time.  We went to the theater and saw the movie “42” and absolutely loved it!  We highly recommend it.  Afterwards, we got some Main Street meat lovers pizza, which was delicious!  It was a great date night!

On Sunday I was worn out, and so I didn’t get anything done that I wanted to, but I needed the rest.  The weekend definitely went by way too fast!

To-Do List

to-do-list-long1 Right now my to-do list is long and daunting.  My blogging has been sporadic because I have been really busy and it seems like my list just keeps getting longer, and longer and longer!  Do you ever have days like this?  I feel like April has just flew by so fast.  I have no idea where it all went.  I am so far behind on everything at home.  I’m really hoping to use tonight and tomorrow to catch up while Adam is at work.

How do you control your to-do list?  Do you have any helpful hints for me?

Ladies who work full time, how do you keep up with your house?  It seems like I cannot keep up with the laundry, the dishes and the cleaning!

This post is untitled because I couldn’t think of anything clever to call it, and also because this post isn’t realy going to be about anything.  I have had a serious headache all day and whenever I tried to think of what I would write about after work, my head started to hurt even more.

My weekend was pretty good.  I think it was relaxing…I can’t really remember what I did.  I do know that it went by way too quickly and I did a lot of laundry.  Last night was the first night that I slept in my bed for a month and a half.  It wasn’t exactly the best night sleep I could have gotten, but a few hours are better than nothing.  My shoulder stayed sore all weekend and is still pretty sore today.  I hope that the medicine eventually kicks in and makes it all worth it.

It has been snowing here all day and it is supposed to snow all night, so I’m hoping for a snow day tomorrow, because sometimes you just need a snow day.

Tonight starts the new season of The Voice, and I am super excited.  I mean, how can it be bad when Usher is joining the coaches?

I have woken up early the last three mornings to do my Bible study and it is amazing what a difference it makes in my whole day.  I am, however, a realist and realize that I probably will not be able to keep getting up this early.

I have been really stressed today because of several realizations.
1-I have a lot of bills that are coming due that I almost forgot about.
2-My house is a mess and I have neglected it.
3-There is no food in the cupboards.
4-I will be packing for the RCC Convention at this time yet week (and I’m really nervous about it).

I’m just happy that I now have the grocery shopping finished, most of the laundry done, it is almost time for The Voice and I have all the ingredients I need to make Rice Krispie Treats.  Thank goodness!

Stretch the Weekend

I wish that the weekend were several days longer than it actually is.  I wish that I had more time to rest and relax.  I usually have a lot to do over the weekend because it is usually the only time that I have to be productive because I am wiped out in the evenings.  That’s why the weekend needs to be longer, so that I have a couple days to be productive and also a couple days to rest and relax instead of trying to fit it all into just a few days.  Anyone with me?

Adam and I decided to celebrate my birthday on Friday because we are both busy today and won’t really get to spend any time together.  So, after work we went to Crazy Tomato for pizza.  It is one of our favorites, and it is pretty cheap.  You get an order of delicious cheesy bread just for sitting down and we got a large pizza for $11 and took three pieces of it home.  It was delicious.  Adam’s gift to me was some shopping money, so after dinner he took me shopping.  It was really fun, and I still have some money left over for some after birthday spending as well.  The only downside to the evening was that I wore these really cute shoes that pinched my toes and gave me blisters.  Adam said I was walking around the mall like someone had just chopped off one of my toes.  Then we just came home, played games, watched TV and relaxed.

Saturday morning I slept in a little longer than usual, which was good since I haven’t been getting very much sleep.  My arm was feeling good so I cleaned the kitchen and did laundry.  Now, don’t think I went crazy.  I was definitely babying my arm but was just trying to get some stuff done that I had neglected.  I watched another best picture movie, “Grand Hotel,” which I really enjoyed.  It is definitely one of my favorites.  I got all the laundry done, the whole kitchen is clean, we had chicken parmesan for dinner, we watched “South Pacific” and played some games, and I got to finish the night off by watching “Pitch Perfect”.  Yay!

Sunday we went to church, enjoyed some fellowship and potluck afterwards (and I didn’t die).  After church I did my grocery shopping, Adam preached the night service, I made some absolutely delicious macaroni and cheese, and I am so sad that I forgot to take pictures for you!  Then I made myself birthday cupcakes and we watched the Oscars.

And today is my birthday J  I have felt the love today.  Yay for another year.  I hope you all had as awesome a weekend as I did.  My only regret is that I didn’t take any pictures!

If you have noticed a lack of “crafty” posts recently, that is because I have discovered how difficult it is to craft without extra spending money, but I have some ideas and some stuff lying around, so maybe I’ll come up with something to share with you soon.

Tonight I will be working another 4 hours at the Phoneathon.  And coming soon, a blog post about my love of scrapbooking!

Crafts–a win and a fail

Weekend Craft Win
Okay, so it’s not a very epic win, and Adam corrected me on it, but I was pretty proud of it.
IMG_1486We had several unmatched socks laying around, and so this is now hanging in our laundry room.  And I happen to like it a lot.

Weekend Craft Fail
I have some doilies that my great-great grandmother crocheted and I think they are beautiful.  Here are a few of them:
IMG_1493  I just love how they look.  I have been inspired by her to make some of my own and to mix some of mine with hers in some decorating.  Well, even though I know how to crochet, this was a totally different animal.  I worked on them all weekend.  I sometimes struggled with the patterns, but could usually figure out what was supposed to be going on.  Here are my doilies, that took my forever to make:
IMG_1495Yeah.  Embarrassing.  Yes, I admit it.  I fail at doilies.
Hopefully one of these days I’ll get over the shame and try again.  Maybe practice makes perfect.
