My Twentysomething Life

I Do, Make, Read, Watch, Eat…

My Favorite Book

darcyandlizzieIf you read my last blog post then you know that today is my first day in my goal to attempt to blog every day in July.  I have written up a list of topics that you can find here or by clicking on “blog everyday in july-topics” over to the right.

Today’s topic is an easy one, my favorite book.

In general it is hard for me to choose a favorite book because I love so many of them.  But the one book that I could (and do) read over and over is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

If you have not read this book, I strongly encourage it.  This book is romantic, whitty, and fun.  I love the love story between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett.  It is probably my most favorite love story.  I get sucked into the poetic language of the book.  It is the perfect book to read snuggled up in a blanket on a rainy day.

My favorite movie version of the book is the one with Keira Knightly and Matthew Macfayden.  It is wonderful.

What is your favorite book?

Sick Thursday

Yesterday I woke up with a crazy migraine.  I have been getting them pretty frequently, which is pretty obnoxious, but yesterday’s was worse than usual.  I went in to work, hoping that all the medicine I took would kick in, but the combination of the noise, light, and staring at the computer was too much for me and I only made it 30 minutes before getting sick and going home.  At home I slept until 1 and then I had a recheck appointment on my shoulder.  Luckily I am feeling a lot better today.  Since I was sick yesterday I did not get a chance to give you my Thursday-Morning Tell-About Update, or my April Goals Update, so I’m going to give them to you now.

Tomorrow night I’ll be able to check this one off!
21.  Take a cooking class

22. Go one weekend “unplugged”
Now that it’s getting nice I am hoping this will happen soon
23.  Read a biography of someone that I don’t like to learn more about them
Currently working on this one.  I’m reading Oprah’s biography.  I’ve never liked her, I’ve never know why though.

So there is one giant update for you.

Enjoy your weekend!  I know I will!

Reading

I love to read.  I am always reading at least one book.  At the beginning of the year I joined Goodreads, which I absolutely love, and I entered a Reading Challenge for myself.  I set a pretty high goal of 100 books in the year.  Here I am, four months into the year, and I have read 33 books so far.

When I was on Goodreads the other day, I noticed that it tracked certain stats about the books I’ve read and one of them really shocked me.  So, far, in the first 4 months of this year, I have read 11,582 pages.  That’s a lot of pages.  I am pretty proud of myself.  I have a few books that I am currently reading, and I have 5 more in a bag at home that I am waiting to get to.  I’m pretty excited about the possibility of reaching this goal!

Check out my Goodreads account here:  http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/17678730-lauren-Tomlinson

And if you would like to join Goodreads, click here and it will link you up as my friend:  https://www.goodreads.com/friend/i?i=LTM2MjI5NzM2MDQ6NDIz

I hope you all join!

Not Quite Motivating

I think I have told you that my new love is the website, “Goodreads” where you can review and rate the books that you’ve read, keep track of the books that you’d like to read, and share with everyone what you are currently reading.  I seriously love it.

One other thing that you can do on Goodreads is set a year challenge for yourself.  You can indicate how many books you are going to read in the year and then it will keep track of it for you.

So, I have already read 14 books this year, and does Goodreads say, “Yay!  You’ve read 14 books so far!  Way to go!”  No, it doesn’t.  It says, “You’ve read 14 books.  At your current pace, you’re 6 books behind schedule.”  Aw…sad.  That’s not exactly motivating.  The best motivation for me is encouragement.

I still love Goodreads, but I wish they would encourage me a little more.

How many books do you plan to read this year?
