My Twentysomething Life

I Do, Make, Read, Watch, Eat…

I’m not out of ideas

Even though I did not blog all weekend, I am not out of ideas.  I’m just out of memory.  I keep forgetting to do things to write the blog posts that I have thought of.

Blog posts coming as soon as I remember to do what I need to do to write them.

New clothes–I have been meaning to write this one for a while now.  I just haven’t taken the pictures of my new clothes yet!  And now they’re all dirty, so this will have to wait at least one more day, but probably two since Adam will need to be free to take the pictures for me, but hopefully soon you will get to see a blog post of my new work clothes.  They are pretty cute 🙂

Crafts–I have done a few crafts recently, and I am excited to show them to you!  But I, again, just haven’t taken the pictures yet, but my goal is to do this tonight, so hopefully you will have some new crafty photos coming to you soon!

Lessons from the Book of Job–I recently finished reading Job for my bible reading and I had some interesting thoughts come up throughout that I wanted to share with you.  I just need to get out my journal so I can remember what they were!  But hopefully this one will be ready sometime this week.

I hope you all keep reading until then!

Later tonight–a post about my weekend and some movies I have been watching.

My 150th Book

I am currently reading my 150th book this year.  I can hardly believe it.

My first goal for the year was 100 books.  When I met that I increased it to 150, and now that I met that I want to increase it again.  I have 2.5 months left, I’m thinking 200 might be a little hard to make.  50 books in 2.5 months?

Think I can do it?

I tend to procrastinate when…

whenever there is something that needs to be done.

I may be a planner, but I am most definitely a procrastinator, and that usually trumps the planning part of me.

It doesn’t matter what I need to do, I will most likely put off doing it, even if it is something that I want to do.  I almost always put everything off until the last minute, except planning.

I know, I know, I don’t make any sense.

Here are some of the main things I am particularly good at procrastinating at:
-washing the dishes
-doing laundry
-doing homework (when I had homework that needed to be done)
-going to the grocery store
-balancing the checkbook

What about you?  Are you a procrastinator?  Family members:  is this genetic? (haha)

The first four

As of yesterday I have marked four movies off my list: Bridget Jones’s Diary, Fargo, Memento, and Taxi Driver.

I have been ranking each movie with stars as I watch them, five stars being the best.  There were two movies that earned 4 stars, one that earned 5, and an !, and one that earned two stars.  Can you guess which movie earned what ranking?

Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001-R)
This movie, starring Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth, and Hugh Grant, is about a woman, Bridget, who at the beginning of the New Year realizes that she is unhappy with her age, her weight, her job, and the fact that she is man-less.  She decides to start a diary and to get herself into shape.  This is a very funny comedy about her love life and other adventures.  This film was very funny and I really enjoyed it.

Fargo (1996-R)
I really had no idea what this movie was about when I started to watch it.  It is written and directed by the now famous Coen brothers and it definitely did not disappoint me.  This movie, starring Frances McDormand, William H Macy, Steve Buscemi, and Peter Stormare, follows a man (Macy) strapped for cash who decides to hire some men (Buscemi and stormare) to kidnap his wife so they can share the ransom money.  Everything goes wrong and a local police chief (McDormand) starts investigating.   McDormand is amazing in her role as Marge Gunderson, her acting in this role landed her the Oscar for Best Actress.  I greatly enjoyed this movie.  McDormand was great to watch and the on-screen drama was captivating.

Memento (2000-R)
Memento follows the story of a man with no short term memory (Guy Pearce), which is a little difficult since he is trying to find and kill his wife’s murderer.  He gets by with a system that he follows religiously.  He receives help from Teddy (Joe Pantoliano) and Natalie (Carrie-Anne Moss).  This film, written and directed by Christopher Nolan was amazing.  I was fascinated with his way of storytelling and by the story in general.  This story made me think and gripped me throughout.  This movie really surprised me.  I was not disappointed by this pick.

Taxi Driver (1976-R)
This film is one that is on a lot of lists for being an outstanding film.  It is about a taxi driver (Robert DeNiro) who is mentally unstable and is very disturbed by all the scum and sleaze in New York City.  He decides that he is going to take matters in his own hands, by means of violence.  He decides to save a young prostitute (Jodie Foster) from her life on the streets.  For everything that I had heard about this movie, I found myself very underwhelmed and honestly bored.

Here are my rankings for these films:
Bridget Jones’s Diary  ****
Fargo ****
Memento *****!
Taxi Driver **

I have had two migraines a week for the past 3 or 4 weeks.  This is getting a little ridiculous.  When I talked to my doctor about it, she gave me a better, stronger medication for the pain.  It hardly touches the pain, it just knocks me out.  I don’t know what is going on or why I am getting them like crazy!  Some people have suggested it could be:
-spinal misalignment
-my prescription for my glasses
-low weather pressure
-magnesium deficiency
I’m planning on going to the eye doctor as soon as I can find time to make an appointment, trying to find a chiropractor, or maybe hanging upside down.  I already try to drink a lot of water, but I’ll try more.  Does anyone else have any guesses?  Because I just want some relief!!

gravity  This weekend, Adam and I went to see a movie.  I narrowed it down to three choices and he got to pick.  He picked Gravity and it was amazing!  In our theater it was only showing in 3D and it was well worth it.  I highly recommend this film.  It was amazing.  And I would say is definitely one that needs to be seen in theaters and in 3D.  Most often when I see a movie in 3D I do not think the 3D really adds anything to the film.  But with Gravity it really makes the whole movie that much better by seeing it in 3D.  If you are trying to decide what movie to watch in theaters the next couple weeks, I would say definitely see this one.  Sandra Bullock is amazing in it.  If you get anything out of this post, please let it be that I highly recommend this movie.

i might have bit off too much

I have hardly been watching any movies lately.  I have gotten caught up in Pretty Little Liars.  I realized how much I miss watching movies.  I think it has been because I have not had a goal.

I bought a book a couple weeks ago called “Movies that Matter.”  It is full of outstanding movies!  The past few days I have been reading through this book and marking down movies that I want to watch.  My list is now at 196!!

This book has a synopsis of the movie and a brief explanation of what makes it awesome.  It does not give ratings or anything, so when I picked movies, I picked them based on the plot and why they are so good.  I think this will be an awesome list to work through.  I am so excited.  I’ll put the list up for you to peruse soon.

I’m off to the library!
